The Religious Ceremony
Foreign citizens can be married in Italy according to Catholic rites. Documents and pre Cana classes are required. This is the same all over the world. They will need to obtain the NIHIL OBSTAT from your local diocese, signed by your bishop. Thanks to the Concordato, a special agreement between the Italian State and the Holy Seat, Christian Catholic Weddings can have a civil validity. In this case both civil and religious paperwork are required. The wedding ceremony must take place in a Catholic Church.

Foreign citizens who want to get married in Italy must obtain a NULLA from their Embassy or Consular Office in Italy.
